Drawing Without an Eraser

Life is drawing without an eraser.

I read that line in an e-mail today and it struck a chord.  I do a small drawing every day in a sketchbook.  It is my visual calendar of what happened or what I would like to remember from the day.  It's just a tiny little square, less than an inch across, and my drawing is done in ink.  I have one shot at whatever it is I want to portray.  One day I took Oscar on a walk in the rain and he came home dripping wet, but with a big doggy smile on his face.  So that's what I drew.  One day while feeding ducks at the nature park there was a very persistent one tugging on the back of my pant leg.  I sketched the moment in my little square.  I can never go back and erase because my picture calendar would be ruined.  Some days my drawings are good and I think, wow, that turned out better than expected.  Some days my drawings are barely recognizeable.  But I know what I was trying to accomplish and I learned a little something along the way.  Once in a while I make an error that I can incorporate into the final design.  I know the mistake is there, but those looking on don't notice.  I briefly pondered doing my daily drawing in pencil so that I could mess and fuss with it and get it right.  Then I thought, No, I'm just going to go for it.  I'm so glad I went for it.

Always move forward, look back at past days and remember, but plunge ahead and just go for it.

What a fabulous idea!  I love that you incorporate the mistakes into your picture- because that is truly how life is.  We make mistakes and must somehow make them fit into our everyday life- and move on.

Blessings to you,
S :)

I have to agree with Ron.  It's a great idea but not one that would work very well for me.  Maybe I'll mention that to my two very artistic daughters.  It would be a fun way to remember things.  Our weather here has actually gotten warmer and started melting some of the mounds of snow.  I doubt it will last but I am enjoying the sun while I can.   Check out the new albums I've added on my space.  You might (or might not) appreciate some of them....

Lovely idea, Linda.  Although, lately, I wish we could erase a few things here and there in life.  But as the saying goes....this too shall pass.  As always, enjoy "hearing" things from your perspective.  :-)

Wow... home teachers on the 8th?????????  Was that early for October or late for September?  Your picture journal is a great idea... but one I could never do.  I can't even make a stick figure look like a stick figure.  life is drawing without an eraser... I'll be thinking about that one today while I go out and make lots of boo boos that I wish I could erase.  Have a great flawless day.  Ron.

What a great idea!  Sometimes pictures say a thousand words.  I don't have a single artistic bone in my body.  I don't think I would recognize what I was trying to draw.

Kia ora Friend,

I love your photo of Mr Burns.  He looks awesome.  I used to draw as well but stopped some years ago.  Maybe Ill start again?  I started doing pottery instead, and now I just don't have the time any more.  : (  .  Im looking at getting a new job and then maybe the hours will be better and i can get back to some art.  I miss it so.  I hink thats why Ive been blogging it sort of helps me use the creative side of my brain.  Have a good day and keep up the drawing.
